When does architecture emerge?
When is architecture, if ever, completed?

‘building building’ invites visitors to perceive architecture not as a predetermined outcome but as an evolving phenomenon by exposing moments from the construction process before they reach their state of ‘completion’, through a series of images.

The photographs are taken from two houses designed by Linghao Architects. In both houses, its old form transfigures into the “new” through an ensemble of simultaneous operations - subtracting, partitioning, and adding new structures - applied to the retained parts of its existing structure to produce new spatial relationships.

While the photos are taken over the course of the construction, the intent is not to describe literally every stage of the process, but aim to elicit reflection and imagination on the interim nature of architecture.
